Kidz Methven is a local community group formed to facilitate the development of the Methven Skatepark.


Like many small community organisations, Kidz Methven has been underpinned by a passionate group of parents and citizens for many years to raise the funds required to build a world class skate & scooter park for all kidz... both big and small.

Methven Skatepark was officially opened in late 2020 and is now utilised by hundreds of kidz, families and seasoned skaters every week.

Community Board.

The Methven Community Board (MCB) actively participates in a growing community and provides a co-ordinated voice that represents the Methven community's interests in Council decision making.


The five board members are elected every three years and are supported by the two Western Ward Council members. The Methven Community Board provide an integral link between Ashburton District Council and the Methven Community, are have been responsible for the development of many projects including the Methven Walkway, Cemetery Upgrades......

Methven Lions are a group of about 70 locals who volunteer their time and skills for the benefit of the local community. Many fund-raising activities are undertaken with the proceeds distributed locally via the Methven Lions Charitable Trust.

Projects include the Mt Hutt Open Day, Annual Gold Tournament, Methven Motor Show, Mud & Steel Winch Challenge the the High Country 4WD Safari. Assistance is given with many other community projects such as the building and maintenance of the Methven Walkway and Garden of Harmony.

Methven has a permanent population of around 1800 and its growth is the fastest in the District.  The economic base stems from the agricultural sector with the support of tourism during winter...
