Our Lifestyle

There’s something special life in Methven. It’s the ultimate balance between work and play, all with the backdrop of our alpine wonderland. There majestic mountains, an abundance of rivers, pristine lakes and farmland as far as the eye can see.  Grab a rod and head into the mountains for some fly fishing. Strap on your hiking boots and discover an endless number of walking and hiking tracks through spectacular scenery.

Tahr and deer roam the hills wild and offer memorable expeditions for the hunting enthusiast – there's even a local butcher that can process it into tasty treats for the freezer!

If you’re up for an adrenalin rush then take your jet boat for a spin up the mighty Rakaia River for some braided action. If you don’t have one then all good cause your neighbour most likely will!

But it’s not all fast-paced, adventure seeking here.

Relaxation is a way of life too. Methven is fast becoming a wellness hub, with salt and hydro therapy, spa and sauna facilities and a number of Pilates and yoga classes, all with a backdrop of mountains vistas and vast open skies.  The beauty of our town is you can be out exploring the alpine paradise one minute and dining at one of our top notch eateries the next. There is a range of restaurants, cafes and bars to suit any taste.

And if you’re after the big city buzz you only have to drive an hour to the emerging global destination of Christchurch. Torn apart in the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes, the city is rebuilding and reinventing itself with a vibrant and edgy feel.

Life in Methven can be fast and action-packed. Or slow and reflective. The great outdoors is our backyard, but you’re never too far from civilisation.

Life in Methven – it's the real New Zealand.
